This month’s feature athlete is Raider pitcher Bryson Schuman. Schuman is a redshirt sophomore from Carl Albert High School. Last season, he missed half the year because of an elbow injury but still managed to strike out 28 batters over 31 innings. He finished the year with a 2-2 record as well and was 2/2 on save opportunities.
As for this season, Schuman is focusing on being consistent. Bryson looks to be a part of a rebirth for the Raiders’ pitching staff. The team ended last season with a 7.41 team ERA, which landed them 151st in the nation last season. Schuman hopes to remedy that this season.
“I definitely contributed to the subpar team ERA last season, and the other returning pitchers are aware of that team ERA as well. In JUCO baseball, you are going to face good hitters,” Schuman said. “So, giving up a hit or two in one inning can’t get to your head or it will make it way more difficult to keep your composure.”
This season looks like it could be a defining one for Schuman as he plans to continue his pitching career at either Oklahoma Christian or Southwest Oklahoma State.
